I thought after the success of the first spelling test that we would not have any issues. However on Tuesday of this week, I realized that she did not bring home her list on Monday. When I asked her about it, she told me that she didn't feel like taking the pretest and wanted to do what the other kindergarten students were doing. When I asked her what they were doing, she said 'writing the room', which I found out means they walk around the room and copy down any words in print they can find. For as much fun as that may be for kids to do, Chloe is a bit past that. So I explained to her that the spelling test is not an option at this point in time. If it becomes too difficult, we will discuss it together before making a decision.
SO, on Tuesday morning I sent a note to the teacher requesting that she send home the spelling lists. Chloe and I visited about how exciting this is for her and how she will have other opportunities to 'write the room' or do centers. Sometimes it just takes a little reasoning to get a five year old to see it from the mother's perspective!
