WARNING: Political Views Ahead!!!
With the election season on us again, I am once again surprised how so many people take it as seriously as they do. Of course, it is very important that each of us vote our conscience, and for who we feel is the best for the country. But once again, politics seems to overshadow everything else, including our ability to respect one another. It seems the same people who will argue that sports are taken too seriously, will support a candidate based solely on the little letter next to their byline on the news. Sure, these same people will give you all kinds of compelling reasons as to why they support their candidate, but more often it amounts to bashing the other guy, or gal as the case is this year. Say what you will about Sarah Palin, but she should be held as an inspiration to women, and young ladies everywhere. I am raising my daughter to know that she is limited by nothing in this world, including those who may not agree with her politics. But what has happened, is people, from what has been commonly known as "the left", are questioning her love for her children, or her ability to be a mother and at the same time hold such a lofty position. The same people who say these things about Sarah Palin would be extremely offended if someone said that about them. We don't have to agree on everything, but we should never question anyone's character that we don't know personally. Politcal campaigns are a nasty business, and have been for many years. I have been very careful not to let the visciousness and poison into my own home. I don't agree with Barack Obama's policies, or his views on the way this country should go. But I would never question his ability to do the job because he has small children at home. Are we still at a place in this society that men and women are not held to the same standards? I pray that my daughter never believes that about herself. She gets to choose how she wants to live her life. If she CHOOSES to be a stay-at-home mom, then may God bless her on her decision. Women who choose to do this, and are in a financial position to make that choice, are to be commended and respected. In the same manner, those who CHOOSE a career, regardless of how high they set their sights, are also to be commended and respected. Please join me in bringing the civility back to the process, and join me in respecting everyone who chooses to serve, instead of insulting them in an effort to get my guy elected.
