Scarlet Fever???

I honestly did not know that this disease still roamed around and affected innocent little children. However, last night Chloe started complaining of a sore throat. I did not think much of it because we have been battling 'stuff' the last few weeks, cough, runny nose, that kind of thing. I did notice before she went that she looked like she had put pink eyeshadow on her eyebrows, but Todd said I was looking for something. So I did what any good parent would do and let her spend the night with my parents.
So fast forward to this afternoon at 2:30. My mom called to say Chloe had a rash and was still complaining of a sore throat. I got over there to look at it and thought maybe it was strep throat or Fifth's Disease, but wanted to get her into the doctor before the weekend hit. Thankfully, they were able to sneak us in, but not with our own doctor. Dr. Jones has been around since I was a kid and what an unexpected treat! He was amazing, so gentle and quiet and he got right down on Chloe's level. When he said Scarlet Fever, I was shocked. He went on to describe that Strep Throat was the throat alone and that when it came with the rash it was considered Scarlet Fever. He then asked if I wanted 'the shot' or the ten day antibiotic. The lesser of the two evils was the ten day prescription, but the faster of the two was the shot. I did just what Chloe did not want, the shot. She got so upset about having to get a shot, she started (vivid description ahead) vomiting phlegm. My poor baby, all this and she had not even had the shot yet. Little did I know that the syrum she was about to get was as thick as molasses and hurt like H-E-L-L!
Fast forward again to getting home where Daddy was patiently waiting for his girls to get home. I made Chloe a comfortable spot on the overstuffed chair and she looked like a queen! After about a half an hour, she wanted a popsicle. And another. And another. Daddy was not about to cave to her every whim (so he says), but who gave her three popsicles in a ten minute timeframe? Daddy! The doctor did say that the prescription for a sick little girl was all the popsicles she could eat!!! Hopefully we will be all better by Monday!!! Happy weekend!
